Kate Hudson defends her mother, Goldie Hawn, when she is accused of being ‘difficult.’

Goldie Hawn has impacted many people throughout her four-decade career, most notably her daughter Kate Hudson, who has followed in her footsteps with a successful acting career.

Despite being of different generations, the two are fully aware of the obstacles that women in the profession face, including ageism, harassment, double standards, and unequal compensation.

Fortunately for Kate, she had a terrific hand to guide her through, and she now has lots of stories – good and bad – to tell from her own and her mother’s experiences.

Kate came to her mother’s defense on Kelly Ripa’s new Sirius XM show, Let’s Chat Off Camera, and offered her a beautiful shout-out for enduring harsh treatment from co-stars and Hollywood big shots alike.

“She had to fight for a lot of these movies to be made [and] was seen by a lot of people as difficult and complicated because she had a point of view,” she said of her mother’s success and worked on films such as Overboard, First Wives Club, and Cactus Flower, for which she won her first and only Oscar.

“She decided to tell anybody who advised her to stay in her lane to go [expletive] themselves and started producing her movies, which wasn’t happening then,” Kate continued.

She even revealed that she had just met a man who had previously worked with Goldie and boldly called her “difficult” to her own daughter’s face.

“He was sort of stating that she was challenging,” Kate recalled, “and I remember thinking, ‘You know, it’s funny, but was she right about what you thought was her being difficult?’” He responded, “Oh yes, I mean, she was right. The whole script required a new rewrite.”

“She was just trying to say, ‘Hey people, we should probably relook at the script,’” she continued, “and that is considered difficult, especially in Hollywood in the 1970s and 1980s.”

“I saw her strength. I saw her conviction. She’s so determined. I mean, she’s truly remarkable,” the Oscar-nominated actress said at the end of the interview, complimenting her mother for her perseverance despite the sexist obstacles she faced.
