Orlando News Reporter Gives Emotional Report on Shooting That Killed a Fellow Journalist; 9-Year-Old Girl Also Died in Orlando Shooting Spree

Luana Munoz, a news reporter for WESH, was seen breaking down and crying on live TV as she gave a report on an Orlando shooting spree that occurred earlier that day. The shooting spree left three people dead – one of which was a fellow news reporter, Dylan Lyons – and two more were critically injured.

Lyons was simply doing his job on Wednesday evening. A Florida man, later identified as Keith Moses, had shot and killed a woman that he was acquainted with earlier that day. Lyons was at the scene and reporting on the murder when Moses returned – shooting and killing Lyons in the middle of his report.

His colleague, who was behind the camera, was also shot by Moses and is now in critical condition. Both victims were Spectrum News 13 employees but appear to have no connection to the suspect. Later that night, after learning of Lyons’ passing, Munoz arrived at the hospital where he died to give her report.

“Alright, I apologize. This is really difficult to cover,” said Munoz – wiping tears from her eyes and her voice cracking. “It is very emotional here at [Orlando Regional Medical Center]. I’m not even going to turn the camera because there are people here that knew the reporter – his fiance and I were just embracing.”

She went on to express how nice it is to see members of the media come together in solidarity after the Orlando shooting spree – calling it ‘every reporter’s absolutely worst nightmare. “We go home at night afraid that something like this will occur, and that is what happened here,” she continued. Lyons was 24 years old.

“So again we are at [ORMC] where we have learned that one of our own, a fellow reporter, has died while out covering a shooting. There are members of his family here along with his fiancée who are just incredibly distraught tonight,” she said before sending it off to the studio so she could ‘collect herself.’

The victim from earlier that day – who the gunman knew – was identified as Nathacha Augustin. She was shot and killed by Moses around 11 a.m., just hours before he returned to the scene and killed Lyons, injuring his colleague. Moses was taken into custody and charged with murder – more charges pending.

Unfortunately, the Orlando shooting spree didn’t end there. Just moments after shooting and killing Dylan Lyons, the shooter entered a nearby home and continued his spree. Inside the home, a mother and her 9-year-old daughter were both shot – the mother is in critical condition, but her daughter was killed.

Police have yet to identify a motive for the killings and don’t believe the shooter had any connection to the mother and 9-year-old girl. They are still processing all the information, and an investigation is ongoing as they try to piece the puzzle together of what happened. The tragedy has rocked the Orlando community.

Moses, who is just 19 years old, does have a criminal history – including a misdemeanor for drug possession and charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, which occurred in November 2021. Police also said he was arrested for aggravated battery, assault, and grand theft during his juvenile days.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and the other lives senselessly taken today. Our thoughts are with our employee’s family, friends and co-workers during this very difficult time. We remain hopeful that our other colleague who was injured makes a full recovery,” said Spectrum News in a statement.
