DC’s horror film Clayface has opened at No. 1 at the global box office, taking $43 million worldwide in its first weekend.
The film earned $24 million in North America and $19 million from 76 international territories, according to Deadline. The result gives the newly combined Paramount-Warner Bros. studio its second consecutive weekend at No. 1, after Street Fighter topped the chart the previous weekend.
The opening fell just short of the $45 million the studio had hoped for, Deadline reported. It still counts as a solid start for a film that cost $44 million to make before marketing.

Audiences gave the film an A- CinemaScore, a rare mark for a horror title. Deadline reported that DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran covered their faces the first time they watched it.
Clayface, directed by James Watkins, stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, a rising actor whose ruined face leads him to a treatment that slowly turns his body into living clay. The film finished ahead of A24’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything, which took $19.5 million in its second weekend in North America.
