US singer Chris Brown was spared an immediate prison sentence on Monday after admitting affray over a 2023 attack at a London nightclub, Reuters reported.
Southwark Crown Court handed Brown, 37, an eight-month suspended sentence. He had pleaded guilty to affray over the attack on producer Abraham Diaw at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February 2023.
Judge Tony Baumgartner said Brown struck Diaw on the head with a tequila bottle and that repeated use of a glass bottle aimed at the head was plainly dangerous, according to court reporting. The court heard Brown played a leading role in the attack, which lasted about 20 seconds.
Brown’s vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, 40, also received a suspended sentence after admitting the same charge. Prosecutors dropped charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and having an offensive weapon when the pair pleaded guilty in July, according to the Associated Press.
