According to her family, Rita Lee, a rock icon, passed away at 75.

The Brazilian singer, who became known as the “Queen of Rock,” reportedly passed away at her Sao Paolo, Brazil, home “surrounded by the love of her entire family.”

The Daily Mirror reports that Lee received therapy for lung cancer after receiving a diagnosis two years prior.

In an emotional statement confirming her loss, her family said: “In this moment of deep sadness, the family appreciates everyone’s affection and love.”

Joao, Rita’s son, remarked that his mother was now “a star in the sky”.

Rita’s admirers quickly joined in the tributes, love messages, and sympathy for her family.

“Rita Lee, RIP. Os Mutantes is one of the coolest bands ever,” one person wrote.

Another person commented, “R.I.P. Rita Lee, Queen of Brazilian Rock’n’Roll. #ritalee.”
