A documentary about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has pulled off one of the biggest nonfiction openings in years, with an estimated $15 million from just 855 theaters and more than 2,000 sold-out screenings, according to distributor A24.
“You Can See Everything,” directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, opened Friday and landed second at the box office behind “Street Fighter,” which took $30 million. Analysts had projected an $8 million debut, and the film nearly doubled it. Trade outlet TheWrap called it the biggest documentary opening in 13 years and the second-best ever for a non-music documentary, behind 2004’s “Fahrenheit 9/11.”

A24 produced the film in secret over roughly three years for a reported $7 million, filming Holmes during the 34 days before she reported to federal prison in 2023. She is serving an 11-year sentence for defrauding investors. The film premiered without announcement at the Telluride Film Festival, then became a word-of-mouth phenomenon.
About 70 percent of the opening-weekend audience was under 35, according to industry reports, and exit polls found nine in ten ticket buyers would recommend the film. It expands nationwide in the coming weeks.
