Nithya Raman will be the next mayor of Los Angeles. The city councilmember beat incumbent Karen Bass by about four points, according to the latest county results, with Raman at 52.1 percent and Bass at 47.9 percent.
Bass conceded on Thursday and called Raman to congratulate her, promising a smooth transition. It is the first time since 2005 that a sitting Los Angeles mayor has lost reelection.

Raman, 45, is a two-term councilmember and urban planner backed by the Democratic Socialists of America. She takes office on December 14, and county officials are set to certify the results on November 27.
