President Donald Trump said on Thursday he met privately with Kirill Dmitriev, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy, at the White House and predicted a deal to end the war in Ukraine could be near.
Trump told reporters he could not share details of the conversation. “I think we’re going to be very close to settling Russia-Ukraine,” he said. “It’s going to be a big agreement, and it’s going to involve more than Ukraine. I could even say it might involve all of Europe.”

The meeting followed a White House event hosted by First Lady Melania Trump, where Russian and Ukrainian officials appeared together to mark a six-day ceasefire she helped broker in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky. The truce ran from October 27 to November 1 and allowed the evacuation of nearly 800 civilians and the delivery of food and medical supplies.
Trump said he did not meet the Ukrainian delegation on Thursday. A US delegation is scheduled to mediate talks between Russia and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11, Reuters reported.
