Although I dislike Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, His Post-Verdict Year Has Been Unfair

It was like witnessing a catastrophic train wreck. I’m referring to the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp court drama.

The Depp v. Heard verdict, which reminded everyone why defense attorneys frequently counsel their clients not to take the stand, was rendered on June 1 of last year. It was impossible to empathize with either celebrity because they were both problematic.

Depp came depicted as a childish Peter Pan-like persona throughout the trial due to testimony of his out-of-control spending, overindulgence, unapologetic and completely recognizable swagger, swollen ego, screaming hissy fits, and teenage rock star-style partying.

Heard, meanwhile, gave off a chilly, calculating vibe. Her allegedly heartless choice to file for divorce just three days after Depp’s mother passed away didn’t help. (Really? She was unable to wait even another week) Heard’s stoicism was punctuated by brief, unexpected bursts of tears, leading Depp’s lawyers to claim that she was acting. There was no ignoring the dramatics of the case, regardless of whether they were correct or incorrect.

Nobody will ever forget the Depp and Heard trial since there were many memorable moments. One year later, the memories of the reported bed pooping are forever etched in our minds, much like the yellow curry stain on white linen clothing. But even though I detest Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, it’s obvious that the year since the verdict has been unfair to him.

The truth about their relationship will only ever be known by Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and even that is disputed. They were engaged in a toxic relationship with what could be considered domestic violence on both sides from the outside looking in. Nevertheless, one was given a golden pass even though neither Heard nor Depp could reflect on or accept responsibility for their behavior.

Depp undoubtedly benefited greatly from his star power and famous status in both the court of public opinion and the court of law. Paul Bettany, with whom Depp jokingly texted about drowning and setting Heard on fire before having sex with her body, was in Depp’s corner along with Kate Moss. Heard had Elon Musk in the interim. I’ll stop here.

Putting bad jokes aside, Depp has had a successful Hollywood career spanning multiple decades. He has a record of producing box office hits and a devoted following. Heard? Not really. Depp’s quick recovery was evidence of this power disparity, despite some experts’ claims to the contrary.

Disney fired him; thus, he must forgo 10,000 boxes of Château Calon-Ségur and a private jet. But Depp’s hopes for the future are reflected in the seven-minute standing ovation he earned at the Cannes Film Festival last week. Heard, meantime, appears to have disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
