Caroline Bryan, Luke Bryan’s wife, took to social media on Tuesday (March 28) to express her feelings about a school massacre that devastated the Nashville community on Monday (March 27.)
Three nine-year-old pupils and three adult staff members were killed in the shooting at the Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school in the Green Hills neighborhood. The gunman, 28-year-old Audrey Hale, was shot and killed by responding police officers at the scene.
Caroline responded as a mother, expressing the sadness and anguish she shares with all her fellow parents as they face the daily anxiety of sending their children to school.
“Every morning, I get in the car with my boys, and we always say our morning prayers,” Caroline, mother of 15-year-old Bo and 12-year-old Tate, explained. Once Bryan’s sister and her husband died, she and her celebrity husband adopted their three now-adult nieces and nephews.
“I always say another prayer as soon as the kids get out of the van at school to keep them safe from harm…”
“And my mind is constantly preoccupied with a shooting,” she said. “It’s horrifying that parents, teachers, students, and everyone else who works in a school must worry about shootings every day. Something has to give. Now.”
Caroline also included a photo of the Covenant School in her post and a verse from Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
“Nashville is in mourning,” she reflected. “What these parents and innocent children are going through is incomprehensible… and will continue to suffer indefinitely.”
Bryan is one of several country musicians who have publicly voiced their sorrow, horror, and fury in the aftermath of the tragedy. Reba McEntire, Carly Pearce, Randy Houser, Sheryl Crow, Brothers Osborne, and others have also spoken out.
