The public was informed by Bruce Willis’ family earlier this year that the star had been given a dementia diagnosis. Since then, they have done everything in their power to support the actor as he adjusts to life after the diagnosis.
His wife, Emma Heming, provided the most recent information on Willis’ condition, and it does not appear to be good.
Actor Bruce Willis, 68, currently has Emma Heming Willis as one of his primary caregivers. She recently discussed the actor’s “slim treatment” options after learning of his dementia diagnosis earlier this year.
Willis had an aphasia diagnosis the previous year. In a statement about the diagnosis, the family said that Willis would now stop acting because the diagnosis interfered with his ability to perform. However, the actor was given a frontotemporal dementia diagnosis earlier this year.
Emma just brought up a documentary that illustrates the challenges of treating dementia patients. The documentary Little Empty Boxes follows Max Lugavere as he documents the diagnosis of his mother’s dementia.

Emma Willis, Demi Moore, and Willis’ five daughters posted a statement on the website of The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration in February 2023. “Our family would like to begin by expressing our sincere gratitude for the tremendous outpouring of love, support, and inspiring stories we have all received since sharing Bruce’s initial diagnosis,” the statement began.
“In the spirit of that, we wanted to give you an update about our beloved husband, father, and friend since we now have a deeper understanding of what he is experiencing.”
“Since we announced Bruce’s aphasia diagnosis in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has worsened, and we now have a more precise diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (also known as FTD),” they wrote.
“Unfortunately, communication difficulties are only one of Bruce’s disease’s symptoms,” it continued. Although this is difficult, receiving a definitive diagnosis at last is a comfort.
“FTD is a terrible illness that can affect anyone and that many of us have never heard of. FTD is the most prevalent form of dementia in those under 60, and because it can take years to acquire a diagnosis, FTD is probably much more widespread than we realize, according to the statement.
The family acknowledged that there is no cure for FTD, but they expressed hope that Willis’ diagnosis and their openness about his care may shed more light on the problem, raise greater awareness of it, and highlight the need for research.
