Story to Warm Your Heart: Respecting Your Aging Parents

An 80-year-old man and his 45-year-old, highly educated son were seated on the sofa in their living room. A bird unexpectedly landed on their window.

“What is this?” the Father questioned his Son. The Son answered, “It’s a crow.” After some time, the Father asked his Son, “What is this?” again. “Father, I just told you,” the Son exclaimed. After a lengthy pause, the old father asked his Son, “What is this?” a third time. When the Son scolded his Father at this point, there was a hint of annoyance in his voice. A crow, a crow, a crow. After a little interval, the Father questioned his Son a fourth time, “What is this?”

The Son yelled, “Why do you keep asking me the same question when I’ve told you so many times, ‘IT IS A CROW’?” at his Father this time. “Do you not understand this at all?”

After a short while, the father came out of his room carrying an old, battered journal that he had kept ever since the birth of his kid. He requested his son to read it as he turned the page. The following entries were found in the diary by the son:

“My three-year-old son and I were sitting on the couch today when a crow perched on the window. 23 times my son asked about it, and each time I responded that it was a crow. I gave him a gentle hug every time he asked me the same question 23 times. I felt love for my defenseless kid rather than irritation at all.”

The little one asked, “What is this?” 23 times, the father answered without quivering. However, when the father asked his son the same question today just four times, the youngster felt uncomfortable and irritated.

So…

When your parents are older, please treat them with kindness and respect rather than with resentment or as a burden. Be respectful of your parents. I want to see my parents happy for the rest of their lives; start speaking that out loud today. They have taken care of me since I was a small child. They have consistently showered me with their unfailing devotion.

To make me suitable for modern society, I traveled across all the valleys and mountains without experiencing the heat or the storm. You could thank God, saying, “I will take the BEST care of my elderly parents. No matter what my beautiful parents do, I will always treat them kindly.”

We appreciate you taking the time to read this.

I hope YOU are spreading the word to all of your friends.
