Tori Spelling has provided an update on her health after being photographed wearing a bejeweled eye patch.
On the most recent episode of the 9021OMG podcast, the Beverly Hills, 90210 stars, 49, explained how she suffered an ulcer in her left eye, necessitating the new accessory.
“I’m to blame. I did it to myself,” Spelling explained to co-host and former costar Jennie Garth. “I have contacts, but I only wear them daily. So, kids, whatever, I can make all the excuses I want at the end of the day. I don’t remove them. It’s not healthy, and you should change that.”
While she did not say how long she wore her contacts before getting infected, she did say she’s “been known to go maybe 20 days [wearing them].”
“It isn’t very comfortable. I inform my ophthalmologist. I’m completely honest,” she added as her cohost laughed, “What’s wrong with you?”
Spelling said her doctor told her she was “lucky to get away with it” after what she’d done.
“I got lucky this time,” she admitted. “Not going to take it for granted,” adding that she would switch to monthly contact lenses once her eye heals.
Mount Sinai Medical officials say bacteria, viruses, and fungi usually cause corneal ulcers or parasite infections. Blurred or cloudy vision, bloodshot eyes, itching, light sensitivity, and itchy, watery eyes are all symptoms.
While the underlying cause determines treatment, eye drops are commonly administered to relieve swelling and inflammation.
Spelling initially revealed the eye problem in a March 24 Instagram Story post, explaining that her doctor had prescribed antibiotic drops.
“Thx for all the well wishes and concern,” she posted beside a photo of herself lying down. “Everyone wants to know if I scratched my cornea. My eye is genuinely infected with an ulcer. Antibiotic drops were administered, and the doctor stated that the wound would “ideally” heal in 7-10 days.”
