Many experts in the entertainment industry are working hard to implement reforms that will hopefully make film sets safer for those who work on them. Those efforts were heightened after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on October 21 in an accident involving a prop gun fired by Alec Baldwin.
While not all occurrences on set are tragically deadly, injuries are common. For example, Harrison Ford was critically injured while filming “Indiana Jones 5” in June.
The business behind the project, Disney, said that the performer “sustained an injury involving his shoulder” while “rehearsing for a fight scene.” According to the New York Post, Ford needed three months to recover, during which time production on the picture was put on hold.
Although Ford was eventually able to heal and return to work on the film, one of the crew members was tragically found dead. However, in this case, the circumstances do not appear to be related to an onset accident but rather to something entirely else.
According to the New York Post, Harrison Ford had just been back on the set of “Indiana Jones 5” for two weeks when tragedy struck. Nic Cupac, a camera operator who worked on the film in Morocco, died at 54.
Disney confirmed the death to the source, adding that Cupac passed away in his hotel room in Fes, while The Sun claimed natural causes as the cause of death. Although Ford does not appear to have commented on the incident, a spokesman for the film told the Post that Cupac’s “unexpected death was not production related.”
The Sun also said that Cupac was in Morocco to assemble a rickshaw scenario. While that may not sound thrilling initially, it appears to have entailed a key stunt that required 100 crew people to be flown in.
According to IMDb, Cupac has also worked as a camera operator and grip on several popular films over the years, including “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” and “Cruella.”
“Our hearts go out to Nic Cupac’s family and friends,” the representative continued. “He was an incredibly talented colleague and member of the film community who will be greatly missed.”
According to the Sun, many people who knew Cupac felt the same way, with one expressing, “I’m heartbroken.” Nic was an excellent dude.” Likewise, our hearts go out to Cupac’s family, friends, and colleagues.
