Bob Miller, best known as Bushwhacker Butch in the WWE, died at 78. On April 3, his former wrestling partner, Brian Wickens (a.k.a. Bushwhacker Luke), announced the news on his Instagram account.
“Our beloved Bob has died. Those we care about never fully leave us.” “Somethings are beyond the reach of death,” Luke’s daughter, Jackie, wrote on his behalf.”Until we meet again, Uncle Bob Miller, we will always love you.”
Luke revealed that Butch had arrived in Los Angeles for Wrestlemania over the weekend. However, he was soon brought to the hospital for a “medication situation.” The actual cause of death had not been identified during this reporting.
The wrestling community is mourning the death of the New Zealander who had a long career in the sport. Butch, who began his wrestling career in 1964, was undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with. He and Luke teamed up in New Zealand before traveling to the United States, and the two became unstoppable.
Since joining the WWE in 1988, the Bushwhackers have become one of the top tag teams in wrestling history, having won multiple championships.
Butch and Luke were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015 for their contributions to the sport. Despite his untimely death, he will be remembered fondly by people in the wrestling world.
Bushwhacker Butch has been retired since the millennium began. However, Butch and his partner, Bushwhacker Luke, reunited in 2021 for meet-and-greets and other select fan events. They were active right up until Butch’s death.
In fact, in an eerie promotional post for Wrestle Con, Luke recently urged their fans that time was possibly running out to secure joint autographs of them. “Due to Butch living in NEW ZEALAND and BOTH OUR AGES, this could be the only time getting DUEL AUTOGRAPHS & PHOTOS with Both of Us,” read the Instagram post. Unfortunately, this would turn out to be correct.
As wrestling pros and fans process Butch’s untimely death, they’ve started posting their eulogies to Twitter. Wrestler Frankie Kazarian tweeted, “RIP Bushwhacker Butch. Sir, best wishes. Thank you for everything, even our single match together. This is heartbreaking.”
Wrestling pro The Iron Sheik wrote, “BUSHWHACKER BUTCH I LOVE YOU FOREVER. RIP, MY FRIEND, YOU ALWAYS MAKE ME SMILE.” Meanwhile, WWE Official Adam Pearce tweeted: “Godspeed, Bushwhacker Butch Miller. Rest well, sir.”
