R.J. Mitte’s Mother Pushes Back on Rumours About Her Son’s Life and Death

1 min read

Dyna Mitte, the mother of Breaking Bad actor R.J. Mitte, has spoken out after her son’s death, pushing back on online rumours about his career and finances.

Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. on the hit AMC drama, died by suicide this month at the age of 34. His family confirmed the death earlier this week.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter after a Celebration of Life ceremony in Brownsville, Texas on Sunday, Dyna Mitte said there had been concerns about her son’s mental health and that she had encouraged him to seek professional help.

“I told him to talk to a therapist and share his feelings and how he saw things,” she told the magazine’s Chris Gardner.

Mitte dismissed speculation that her son’s acting career had stalled. She said he had three films released this year, with two more awaiting release, plus deals signed on several new movies. He also had a book in the works and was planning to start a food truck business, she said.

“I know there’s been some speculation that his career had taken a dive or this and that,” she said. “And honestly, I want to straighten that out right now.”

She also addressed talk of money troubles, saying a past financial dispute with a former manager was resolved years ago and was unrelated to his death. The loss, she said, was not something the family had expected.
