Matthew Perry’s sister has described the Friends cast’s goodbye at her brother’s funeral in a new Netflix documentary. Mia Perry Bowick recounts greeting Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt Le Blanc and Courteney Cox at the November 2023 service, where she says they approached his open casket, held hands and cried.
The three-part documentary, “The One About Matthew Perry”, streams on Netflix now. It arrives one day short of the third anniversary of Perry’s death. Perry died at 54 on 28 October 2023, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later ruled his death an accident caused by the acute effects of ketamine, with drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine listed as contributing factors.
The Friends cast members are not featured in the documentary, director Mary Robertson told USA Today. Robertson said she wrote to Perry Bowick and was surprised to hear back, and that Perry wanted substance abuse disorder understood as a disease rather than a failure of willpower.

Perry played Chandler Bing on Friends, which premiered in 1994 and drew 52 million viewers for its finale a decade later. The documentary traces his career and his public battles with addiction, which he documented in his memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing”.
