Alanis Morissette said she is pansexual during an appearance on the Handsome podcast, in a candid exchange that drew wide attention after the episode aired.
The 52-year-old singer made the remark on the November 3 episode, hosted by comedians Tig Notaro and Fortune Feimster and writer Mae Martin. Feimster asked whether the heartbreak behind songs on Jagged Little Pill had ever made Morissette want to be a lesbian. “I’m pansexual, so yeah,” Morissette replied, adding, “I get everything.”

Notaro asked whether she was serious. “I am,” Morissette said. The hosts joked she should have led with the news, and Morissette laughed that she liked to leave it for the epilogue.
Pansexuality describes attraction to people regardless of their gender identity, according to GLAAD. Morissette has spoken about her sexuality in interviews over the years, but this is the first time she has publicly described herself as pansexual, Newsweek noted.
Morissette has been married to musician Mario “Souleye” Treadway since 2010. She is currently performing her Los Angeles residency, Butterfly with a Machete, at the YouTube Theater, with the final show set for November 11.
