Warner Bros.’ Clayface pulled in an estimated $3.5 million or more from Thursday preview screenings, Deadline reported, setting up a competitive weekend at the domestic box office.
Preview shows kicked off at 2 pm on Thursday ahead of the film’s Friday release. Current tracking points to a domestic opening weekend of $20 million to $25 million.
The number compares well against recent genre releases. It topped the $2 million in previews for Sony’s R-rated Kraven the Hunter, which opened to $11 million, and landed just under Birds of Prey‘s $4 million previews ahead of its $33 million debut.

Directed by James Watkins from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan, the DC body-horror film stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen. It carries a net production cost of $44 million before marketing, Deadline reported. The film holds a 76% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Clayface faces a real challenger for the weekend crown: A24’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything, which expands to roughly 2,600 locations this weekend after a $15.6 million opening.
