1 min read

Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple have ended their engagement, two years after they got engaged on the first season of “The Golden Bachelorette.”

Vassos, 63, shared the news in a statement posted to her Instagram Story on Friday, November 6. Chapple, also 63, later posted a similarly worded statement on his own account.

“Sadly, our journey hasn’t turned out the way we had hoped and we have decided to end our engagement,” Vassos wrote. “We truly want each other to be happy, and I’m grateful for the chapter we shared.”

The couple met during the show’s inaugural season in 2024, and Chapple proposed in the November finale. They spent the last two years together but held off on both marriage and moving in together. As recently as February, they were discussing a possible wedding in 2027.

Vassos is a widow who lost her husband, John, to pancreatic cancer in 2021. Chapple is a widower whose fiancee, Kathy, died of cancer in 2022.

They are the second “Golden” couple to split in recent weeks. “Golden Bachelor” season two couple Mel Owens and Peg Munson announced their breakup on October 21 after one year of dating.
