Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is sending $1 million from her own campaign war chest to back Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan’s Senate race, one of the tightest contests of the midterms.
She announced the transfer on Friday at a campaign event in Pontiac, Michigan, capping a week of joint appearances that included a bus trip through the state’s Upper Peninsula. The money goes to the Abdul for Michigan Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee run with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Michigan Democratic Party.

“I’m not waking up on November 4th wishing I did more to combat the smears aimed at Abdul,” Ocasio-Cortez told The New York Times. “I’m leaving everything I can on the field.”
El-Sayed, a former public health official, faces Republican former Rep. Mike Rogers in November, with control of the Senate potentially on the line. Ocasio-Cortez endorsed El-Sayed back in July before he won the Democratic primary, and entered October with roughly $17.4 million on hand after raising $4.7 million in the third quarter, according to federal filings.
