Donald Trump held his first campaign rally in Kansas in eight years on Monday, turning out to support Senator Roger Marshall before about 5,000 people at an arena outside Wichita. No Democrat has won a US Senate seat in the state since 1932, but Marshall is running neck and neck in polls against Democrat Adam Hamilton, a Methodist megachurch pastor who raised $11 million in the third quarter to Marshall’s $800,000. “You’re really sort of, I hate to say it, you’re sort of tending toward the purple,” Trump told the crowd, pointing out that Kansas already has a Democratic governor in Laura Kelly.
Trump also warned Kansans that the United States would “burn” like France if Democrats win control in November, pointing to recent unrest in the French capital. He offered no evidence for the claim, Reuters reported. Marshall, 66, is an obstetrician-gynaecologist and former congressman who has been a staunch Trump ally, including backing his debunked claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.
