President Donald Trump named Stephen Miller as his new White House chief of staff on Friday, replacing Susie Wiles days after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections.
Trump announced the move in a post on Truth Social, calling Miller one of his most trusted advisers. Miller, 41, takes over on Monday, November 9. Wiles will move to the president’s political operation.
Wiles submitted her resignation on Thursday evening, according to people familiar with the matter cited by CNN. In a statement on X, she said Friday was her last day as chief of staff. Trump said she had done an outstanding job.

Miller has served as deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security adviser since the start of Trump’s second term in January 2025. He has played a leading role in shaping the administration’s deportation policies.
Wiles, 69, was the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff. She helped run Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and held the post from the start of his second term.
