President Donald Trump campaigned in Corpus Christi and Lubbock on Tuesday, October 27, to boost Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton against Democrat James Talarico, according to the Associated Press.
Trump appeared alongside Paxton in the two cities one week before the midterm elections. Secretary of State Marco Rubio joined the trip, the Associated Press reported, to show off a newly arrived oil tanker carrying Venezuelan crude for processing in Texas refineries.
The visit marked Trump’s third swing through Texas since a midterm convention in Dallas in September, according to the Associated Press. Texas has not elected a Democrat to statewide office in 32 years, but the Associated Press reported that Talarico has made the Senate race competitive.
Talarico campaigned in Midland, Amarillo and Lubbock on the same day, the Associated Press reported. The contest decides the seat held by retiring Senator John Cornyn.
