Sony Pictures will co-finance Lionsgate’s live-action Naruto film and handle its international distribution. Lionsgate has greenlit the film, with filming planned for spring 2027.
Destin Daniel Cretton will write, direct and produce the adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project will be his next film after Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Lionsgate will oversee development and handle domestic distribution. Sony’s involvement reunites the studio with Cretton, who directed its summer hit Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The film will be produced by Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Emmy Yu for Arad Productions, alongside Cretton and Jeyun Munford for Hisako. Charles Melton has been reported as in talks to play Kakashi Hatake, the ninja mentor to Naruto and his friends.
No release date has been announced yet. The casting search for the actor who will play Naruto is still under way, according to reports.
