Democrats Try to Ride Blue Wave in Final Midterm Blitz

1 min read

Democrats enter the final days of the 2026 midterm campaign with analysts giving them a growing chance of taking Congress, according to the New York Post. Election Day falls on Tuesday, November 3, with all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats on the ballot.

The Cook Political Report is tracking seven toss-up Senate races, six of them in states that normally lean Republican, along with Michigan. Many of those races sit within 2 percent in polling averages, the report said.

Non-partisan analysts now predict a Democratic gain of 12 to 25 House seats, the Post reported. That would be enough to erase the Republicans’ four-vote House majority and make Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York speaker. Democrats are also described as slight favourites to overcome the Republicans’ current 53-47 Senate majority, which would require a net gain of four seats.

President Donald Trump has campaigned through a run of rallies in Republican-leaning states. His advisers said the push aims to lift turnout among his supporters after polls showed Democrats voting early in record numbers.

Trump has already said he will use his veto if Democrats take charge, the Post reported. The closest Senate contests include South Carolina, Alaska, Maine, Kansas and Texas, where incumbents and challengers are fighting over a handful of seats that will decide control of the chamber for the next two years.
