The FBI searched a Beverly Hills mansion on Tuesday as part of an investigation into former Representative Eric Swalwell, according to CNN and Reuters. The home belongs to Stephen Cloobeck, a wealthy developer and Swalwell donor, multiple outlets reported.
Agents carried out the search early Tuesday morning on North Roxbury Drive, the Los Angeles Times reported. The FBI confirmed only that it ran an operation in the Los Angeles region tied to an ongoing criminal investigation, and declined to comment further.
Reuters reported, citing a senior law enforcement official, that agents searched for electronic devices and records. No one was arrested, and Cloobeck was not home at the time, the official said.
Swalwell, a California Democrat, resigned from Congress and ended his run for governor in April after several women accused him of sexual misconduct. He has denied the allegations and has said he will fight them.
Cloobeck donated $1 million in March to a group supporting Swalwell’s gubernatorial campaign, according to California campaign finance records cited by CNN. He later broke with Swalwell after the allegations surfaced.
