President Donald Trump congratulated Democrats on their midterm wins and blamed Republican candidates for the losses, telling Fox News the Democrats “did a good job” and “fought hard.”
Trump told CBS News he looked forward to working with Democrats “for the good of our country,” according to reports of the call. He said he was not on the ballot and argued the result would have differed if he had been.

He pointed to candidate quality in interviews after the results, saying some Republican candidates failed to inspire voters to turn out. He also told Fox News that rising gasoline prices linked to the conflict with Iran played a part, while saying the war itself was only a piece of the outcome.
Democrats flipped at least seven Republican-held Senate seats and won control of both chambers, according to projections from multiple decision desks. The new Congress takes office in January 2027.
