1 min read

Clayface is taking shape as the weekend’s No. 1 film, with an estimated $23 million to $25 million opening from 3,458 theatres. The Warner Bros. and DC horror film earned $9.5 million on its first day, including $3.5 million in Thursday previews.

The result gives the newly combined Paramount and Warner Bros. its second straight No. 1 opening, after Street Fighter debuted with about $31 million last weekend. Clayface cost $44 million before marketing.

Audiences responded strongly on opening night. The film earned an A- CinemaScore, unusually high for a horror film, and holds a 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. A24’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything sits close behind in second place, with about $19 million in its second weekend.
